Equity Task Force

Mission Statement

The Equity Task Force of the Vacaville Unified School District is committed to building awareness, creating solutions, and addressing inequities by advocating equity and justice for historically marginalized groups. We aim to empower all students and staff through collaboration, research, and educational development for the intentional disruption of systemic racism, bigotry, and prejudice. Our goal is to create an education system that is culturally responsive and culturally sustaining. We are equally committed to building the leaders of tomorrow who will combat racism and prejudice to promote equity throughout their lives.

History

The Equity Task Force came together in the summer of 2020 to create an equitable learning environment on all VUSD campuses to address acts of hate and bigotry with respect to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disability and religion. We held listening sessions with staff, students and community members to gauge the kind of work that lies ahead. Together as a group, we are working on aspects that affect our district in areas such as curriculum, staffing and discipline.
